Worship services at DC Church are just that…Worship! Our audience is God and we aim to build a place where He can reside with pleasure and work in the hearts of people as we respond to His presence. Worship leads the list of church purposes because it is of utmost importance. All of the other purposes flow out of our worship of the Lord. We were made to worship the God of the universe (Ephesians 1: 6, 12). Worship is the only purpose we know we will be doing for eternity. Over and over in Scripture we read the command to worship, to praise the Lord (Psalm 150). we make it our focus to worship God in everything we do, whether at home, work, school, out in the community or together as a church family. As we recognize God for who He is and what He has done in our lives, we cannot help but respond by giving God first priority in how we spend our time, serve one another, or invest our resources: in other words giving everything back to Him that He has given us.
The Bible says we should worship God in Spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24). Worship must be an inward decision before it can be an outward expression. Our desire as a Worship Arts Ministry is to create and offer worship experiences that are relevant, Christ-Centered and exalt the name of God which allow His Holy Spirit to work in our hearts, transforming us into His image. While they are geared toward followers of Christ, this does not preclude our worship times from impacting those who do not yet have a relationship with Christ.
The Bible is full of examples of worship expression. Biblically, music almost always goes hand in hand with worship, but it is not absolutely necessary. However, it is the easiest and most effective way to connect deeply with the human spirit while joining the hearts of the congregation to give praise to God. Scripture reading, media and video, as well as testimony and prayer are incorporated into our services as expressions of worship and to communicate creatively.
In humility, we recognize that there is a wide variety of styles and expressions of worship that is equally pleasing to God. We believe in using various forms of worship that are appropriate to the DCBC communities and cultures.
Members of the Worship Arts Ministry see themselves as worship leaders and ministers, not performers. They do not desire to draw attention to themselves or even the art form they are using, but to usher people to the throne of God by offering and modeling authentic worship. As worship leaders, they desire to offer a sacrifice of praise that is worthy of our great God with excellence, joy, and reverence. Therefore, they take their ministry seriously and strive to come before the congregation and the Lord with clean hands and a pure heart.
The Worship Arts Ministry is made up of volunteers... just like you! There are a variety of opportunities for you to use your gifts to lead worship at Deep Creek. The most important requirement to join the orchestra and rhythm section is that you have a heart willing to serve others. The Orchestra creates fullness of sound and inspires engagement within the congregation. It serves in conjunction with the Celebration Choir each weekend and during our seasonal outreach events. Be a part of this incredible ensemble! Rehearsals are on Wednesday nights from 6:00-7:00pm in the Worship Center.
The CROSSOVER Worship Band leads worship for our 10:45am “modern” worship time and is open to talented guitarists, bassists, drummers, and keyboard players and requires an audition. These instrumentalists love God deeply and understand what it means to lead God’s people in engaging worship through culturally relevant expressions of adoration which utilize guitar-driven forms. Rehearsals for the worship band take place on Thursday nights from 6:00-8:30pm in the worship center.
If you have experience as an actor or dancer, these artistic expressions can also be used to communicate God’s love and to demonstratively let Him know how much we love Him. Opportunities exist periodically within our worship services in either live or video format as well as during our seasonal outreach and worship events and an audition is required. Rehearsals are on an “as-needed” basis.
One of the most exciting and growing areas of ministry in the church is Sound, Lights & Media or SLAM. God created light, beautiful sights and sounds; and He created us to worship Him! So, it is good that we use these elements in worshipping God. Colossians 1:16 says God created everything for Him, so we want to use sights and sounds to honor, glorify and celebrate our Savior.
At Deep Creek, we use high quality audio, video and lighting systems to enhance and give clarity to our worship services and special presentations. We use servant/volunteers, who work behind-the-scenes, to run these systems. The areas of service include audio, camera operation, video editing and graphics, lighting, media duplication/distribution, and stage set-up.
Getting connected with the Sound, Lights & Media ministry is easy. No experience is needed; we train every one. The volunteers work one to two Sundays and Wednesdays a month, giving them the opportunity during the other weeks to worship with their friends and family. For more information please contact our technical director, Jason Anderson, at 757-487-2182.
